Eligibility Criteria for TES 53

1. Nationality:
The candidate must be an unmarried male and should meet one of the following nationality conditions:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates from certain categories may require a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India, except for Gorkha subjects from Nepal.
2. Age Limit (As of 01/07/2025):
- Minimum Age: 16 years 6 months
- Maximum Age: 19 years 6 months
Candidates born between 02 Jan 2006 and 01 Jan 2009 (both dates inclusive) are eligible. Applicants should note that no changes in the date of birth will be entertained once submitted in the application.
3. Educational Qualification:
Candidates should have passed 10+2 (Intermediate) with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized education board.
Additionally, the candidates must have appeared in the JEE Mains 2024 examination, which is a mandatory requirement for TES 53.
4. Physical and Medical Standards:

Selection Process for Indian Army TES 53
The selection process for TES 53 comprises several stages, which candidates must successfully pass to be commissioned as officers in the Indian Army:
1. Application Submission:
The first stage involves submitting the online application between 07 October 2024 and 05 November 2024. Candidates must carefully fill in the required details and ensure that all eligibility criteria are met before submission.
2. Shortlisting of Candidates:
Once the application window closes, the Indian Army will publish the cut-off marks for shortlisting candidates based on their PCM percentage and JEE Mains scores. This cut-off is expected to be released in the first week of December 2024. Candidates who meet or exceed the cut-off will be shortlisted for the next stage.
3. SSB Interview:
Shortlisted candidates will be called for the 5-day SSB (Service Selection Board) interview between January and March 2025 at one of the following centers:
- Prayagraj (UP)
- Bhopal (MP)
- Bengaluru (Karnataka)
- Jalandhar (Punjab)
The SSB interview comprises multiple tests, including psychological assessments, group tasks, and interviews with senior officers. Candidates who clear the SSB interview will proceed to the next stage.
4. Medical Examination:
Candidates recommended by the SSB will undergo a thorough medical examination to ensure they meet the physical and medical standards required for the role of an officer in the Indian Army.
5. Final Merit List:
A merit list will be prepared based on candidates’ performance in the SSB interview. The final selection is subject to the availability of vacancies, and candidates who are selected will receive Joining Letters for training.
Training and Commission Details
Selected candidates will undergo rigorous military and technical training before being commissioned as officers:
1. Training Duration:
The training will be for a total of 4 years, split into two phases:
- Phase I: 3 years of basic military and engineering training at CME Pune, MCTE Mhow, or MCEME Secunderabad.
- Phase II: 1 year of advanced training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.
2. Degree Awarded:
Upon successful completion of the 4-year training program, candidates will be awarded an Engineering Degree. However, no ante-date seniority will be granted on account of this degree.
3. Rank and Commission:
Upon completion of training, candidates will be commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army, with opportunities for further promotion based on years of service and merit.
Salary and Allowances
The Indian Army offers a comprehensive compensation package to its officers, including salaries, allowances, and benefits:
1. Stipend During Training:
During the training period, cadets will receive a monthly stipend of ₹56,100, as is admissible to NDA cadets after completing three years of training.
2. Pay Upon Commissioning:
After commissioning as a Lieutenant, the pay scale will be as follows:
- Lieutenant (Level 10): ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500
Additional allowances such as Military Service Pay (MSP) of ₹15,500 per month and other allowances like risk and hardship allowance, uniform allowance, and high-altitude allowance, depending on service location, will also be provided.
3. Promotion Structure:
Officers in the Indian Army have a clear promotion path based on their years of service:
- Lieutenant: Upon commissioning
- Captain: After 2 years of service
- Major: After 6 years of service
- Lt Colonel: After 13 years of service
Further promotions are based on merit, vacancies, and fulfillment of service conditions.
